The Sixth Extinction
I stumbled upon this article and it continues to make me think- and challenge the ways we humans live our lives:
The Sixth Extinction by Niles Eldredge
I have this deep conviction that this is the kind of thing I came here to affect- it has something to do with my life purpose.
Such strong feelings arise in me when I think of the human race and how we have impacted our planet.
Take this, for example:
"Agriculture represents the single most profound ecological change
in the entire 3.5 billion-year history of life. With its invention:
-humans did not have to interact with other species for survival,
and so could manipulate other species for their own use
-humans did not have to adhere to the ecosystem’s carrying capacity,
and so could overpopulate"
We have got to figure out some solutions- worldwide solutions- and fast.
And I intend to be a part of them.
